An Independence Day Reminder

PDF E-mail

This coming 4th of July carries special meaning in the wake and midst of American involvement Middle East conflicts and peaceful resolutions.  The United States stands for freedom and that is what Americans are most proud of.

Unfortunately, there are many Americans that actually take away freedoms from their neighbors through substance abuse, even on our national Independence Day.  According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 60% of traffic fatalities on the 4th of July in 2001 were the result of individuals driving under the influence of alcohol.

What starts out as seeming like a solution to some sort of problem for most people, drug use becomes an addiction that creates much bigger problems than were present before.  In the case of drinking and driving, the cost is more than $100 billion annually and thousands of lives, among many other societal problems.

"In 2002 this public health epidemic killed more than 49 people each and every day, " claims Wendy Hamilton, National President of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

There is no excuse for the careless and selfish decisions made by individuals that affect the lives of others on a daily basis.  However, people are basically good and they can be rehabilitated and take responsibility for their actions.

As President of Narconon Arrowhead, Luke Catton said, "We have a lot of people come to our program that are smart, talented, mean well and want to help others, but turned down the wrong road.  Through effective rehabilitation these people become contributing members of society again, free from the chains of addiction."

Narconon Arrowhead is one of the nation's most successful rehabilitation and education programs in the country, utilizing the drug-free methodology of American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard.  If you or someone you love needs help to overcome drug addiction, call 1-800-468-6933 or log on to www.stopaddiction.com today.
