National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery MonthEach year, our nation celebrates National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month, observed in September. Throughout the year there is an ongoing discussion and sharing of addiction recovery news. Some notable addiction recovery news topics include the ongoing battle regarding mandated insurance coverage for drug rehab services, individual stories about successful recovery and the availability of addiction recovery help for those who need it. Recent news highlights show that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services awarded $98 million in new Access to Recovery (ATR) grants to provide people seeking drug and alcohol treatment with vouchers. To date, more than 170,000 people with substance abuse problems have received addiction treatment and/or recovery support services through the first round of ATR grants. The Access to Recovery initiative has expanded treatment capacity and consumer choice in 18 states, five tribal organizations, and the District of Columbia. Three-year grants are being awarded to the states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Missouri, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin. “Providing people who have substance abuse problems with choices regarding their treatment and recovery supports makes sense,” said SAMHSA Administrator Terry Cline, Ph.D. “It helps empower them from the very beginning in the fight for their life. Access to Recovery provides individuals the flexibility needed to find their own path to recovery.” Narconon Arrowhead releases addiction recovery news each week in the form of graduate success stories and drug-related articles. These writings serve as positive examples and reminders that permanent recovery from addiction is possible, and that the Narconon Arrowhead drug and alcohol rehabilitation program can help. |
