Studies Show Dangers of Alcohol Consumption

The Reuters news agency just reported on a study being conducted by Vanderbilt University and the University of California San Francisco on alcohol consumption.  The study concluded that heavy "social" drinkers suffer brain damage due to the intake of the legal drug.

A study done by the University of Amsterdam and the Leiden University in 2002 went a step further, showing that even one drink can impair a person's ability.

April is Alcohol Awareness month, and people need to understand the devastation caused to our society by this socially acceptable drug that is readily available and whose makers advertise good times to entice young drinkers.  In fact, more than 15,000 people die every year in the United States due to alcohol related traffic accidents.

In an effort to curb consumption by younger children, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) teamed up with Scholastic, Inc. to announce a new campaign to educate fifth grade students about the dangers of alcohol.  Supporters of the movement include the first ladies in fifteen states, who are adamant about curbing the disturbing numbers of 2.6 million American 12-17 year olds who reported alcohol binges in 2002 alone.

Of course education and awareness programs must be effectively implemented in all grades for all students, and that is why the Narconon drug education and prevention program has age-appropriate presentations covering the affects of drugs and alcohol for the early grades of elementary school on up through college students and beyond.

Hundreds of thousands of surveys have shown that the effectiveness of the truth regarding these substances communicated in an interesting and informative matter helps students make better choices in life, contributing to the 11% decline in overall adolescent drug use in the last two years.
