New Book Released Provides Answers About Addiction

CANADIAN, Okla. ? What is addiction?

That is a question that the governments, universities, scientists and doctors of this world have been trying to answer for a very, very long time.  Unfortunately we have spent hundreds of millions of dollars in the United States to study different factors and come up with nothing more than it is a very complex "disease" that we don't know how to cure.

Even whom many consider to be the father of psychology, Sigmund Freud, became addicted to cocaine and widely promoted its use, yet the field he pioneered continue to evaluate people with the latest diagnoses.

Thankfully, one organization has been effectively eliminating the problem of drug addiction for 37 years.  The Narconon® drug rehabilitation and education program has continued to grow and is now operating in 35 countries around the world for one simple reason, it works.

A new book released by Narconon Arrowhead is a much-needed answer to the problem of drug and alcohol addiction. Helping Someone Overcome Addiction is filled with useful information on the devastating cycle of addiction and the reasons why it affects so many people and causes so much loss.  The book explains simple, basic truths about what occurs when and individual uses drugs.

"For drug addicts and their families there is a lot of misery and pain associated with addiction and this lasts, in some cases, a lifetime. With 26 million drug addicts in the United States and their associated loved ones, there is an overwhelming need to understand the cause of this pain and suffering," says Derry Hallmark, CCDC (Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor) and co-author of the book.

The book has been in the works for the last two years and informs the public on the complete cycle of addiction, covering subjects such as what drugs do the mind and body, physical cravings and relapse and how a person gets involved with using drugs in the first place.  It is the first volume in a series that helps people to understand the basics and underlying factors of why and how individuals become addicted to drugs.

According to Matt Lane, Executive Editor for the News-Capital & Democrat, "Understanding why is more important sometimes than understanding how.  The book does a good job of explaining the roots of addiction in clear, concise language."  Lane continues to say, "?I know this book will make a difference in the lives of those who read it."

Assistant school superintendent Dr. Emery D'Arcangelo claims, "It is a 'must read' for those who need help or know someone who needs help."

Gary Smith, CCDC and co-author of Helping Someone Overcome Addiction exclaimed, "Most of the information is based on 30-plus years of research done by American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard, who recognized early on that drug and alcohol addiction is a huge problem, but that it can be overcome."  Smith, himself a recovered heroin addict through the Narconon program, has been helping others do the same through effective education and rehabilitation since 1975.  The book is available online at www.solveaddiction.com.

Drug Rehab Center Success Story
I am one of those people who society thought the phrase, “once an addict, always an addict” applied to. I have been in and out of jail and drug rehabs since I turned 18. After coming to Narconon Arrowhead's drug rehab center, my mind started changing. Something was different here. Maybe it was the staff or the alternative to the Twelve step approach. Maybe it was my body without toxins from years of self-induced exposure to chemicals. Narconon Arrowhead has changed me. Thanks to this drug rehab program, when someone tells me the old saying, I can proudly correct them. K.D.
