Peyote Is Mescaline

Peyote is a small cactus, also called Lophophora williamsii. The active ingredient in Peyote is mescaline which is a hallucinogen. Historically, peyote has been used by natives in the southwestern United States as well as northern Mexico as a part of religious ceremonies. Mescaline is extracted from peyote or the drug is produced synthetically.

The short-term effects of peyote include nausea followed by auditory or visual effects or hallucinations. Other effects include loss of appetite, increased temperature, increased heart rate, blood pressure, sleeplessness, appetite, weakness, tremors and numbness. Some users have reported that Peyote trips cause deep introspection and insight while others can reported that the effects of the drug are terrifying and can include paranoia, anxiety, fears, insanity, feelings of losing control and fear of death. The effects of Peyote last between 10 to 12 hours.

Peyote can cause long-term damage in those that use it. Users have reported experiencing "flashbacks", or and reoccurrences of hallucinations for years after taking the drug. 

Street names for peyote are “mescal button,” “divine cactus,” and “P.”
