In the wake of a controversial $400 billion prescription drug plan for Medicare, the already deep pockets of big-time pharmaceutical companies are seeking to become even deeper. 

An article in the New York Times last week reported that the legal drug manufacturing industry is seeking to raise prices in foreign countries that can afford it.  The same article quoted Ian Spatz, vice president for public policy at Merck saying, "This is all going on in this larger context of growing unrest in the United States that other countries are not paying their share of the cost of pharmaceutical research." 

Merck is also the same company that patented the highly toxic and damaging club drug MDMA (ecstasy) back in the early 1900's.  This same drug was reported as having a 70 percent increase in worldwide use more than ten years after it became illegal.
