Narconon Stops Heroin Addiction

Heroin is classified as one of the most dangerous illicit substances available.  Heroin is derived from the opium poppy, and usually comes in powder or tar form. Heroin can be snorted, smoked, or injected. Heroin is in a class of drugs known as opiates. Once opiates reach the users brain, they bind to specific receptors known as opiate receptors that control mood, movement, breathing, and body temperature regulation. After binding to these receptors, opiates produce an intense euphoria or “rush”.  Some of the side effects produced by heroin include, but are not limited to, relaxation, decrease in pain, decrease in sex drive, constricting of the pupils, vomiting, slow breathing, and nausea.

According to recent studies conducted by The National Institute on Drug Abuse [NIDA], around 3.7 million Americans have used heroin at least once in their lifetime. Also about 14% of state funded drug and alcohol treatment admissions were specifically for heroin treatment.  In addition to these alarming statistics from NIDA, the Drug Abuse Warning Network [DAWN] conducted a recent survey to find out how many emergency room visits were heroin related. Of a total 113 million emergency room visits, almost 200,000 were related to heroin use and abuse.

The above statistics just go to show how devastating the effects of heroin truly are. Not only is heroin terrible on the users body, it is also a very expensive habit.  The average heroin user spends around $150-$200 daily to support their addiction.

Studies have revealed that 70-80% of all the new cases of Hepatitis C come from inject-able drugs such as heroin. And while heroin can be administered other ways, it is most often used intravenously.

Narconon Arrowhead specializes in treating heroin addiction. By handling both the physical aspect of the addiction, as well as the mental and emotional issues that often accompany it.

Heroin is a very physically addictive drug. When a user ceases using the opiate, they begin having severe withdrawal symptoms such as vomiting, cold sweats, diarrhea, and insomnia. The Narconon withdrawal program uses a regimen of vitamins and minerals as well as message techniques to help alleviate physical discomfort and get the individual back in good health. Narconon Arrowhead also uses a state of the art sauna detoxification program that eliminates all the physical cravings associated with heroin addiction.

“Before this program I was a hopeless heroin junkie.  After completing the sauna program I felt like my old self physically again. After completing the rest of the program I now feel better mentally than I ever have in my entire life. Without this program I would most likely be dead or in jail. The staff is extremely caring and makes this place that much better,” says a recent Narconon graduate.
