Florida - Methamphetamine Drug Rehab Facts, Trends, and Needs

ice_methamphetamine__pipe.jpg   Methamphetamine abuse and addiction is not only a problem for Florida, but has spread plague-like across the United States.

Methamphetamine is known by a number of street names including speed, meth, chalk, ice, crystal, glass, and tea and a host of others. Methamphetamine abuse and addiction showed steadily increasing trends in Hawaii and California in the early 1990’s and have been spreading across the country in a plague-like fashion ever since. Meth is now used in every state in the nation, in some areas at an epidemic level. According to the 2005 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), the estimate for national use of methamphetamine is 10.4 million people (aged 12 or older) every year. This is 4.3% of the population. The Drug Abuse Warning Network reports that treatment for methamphetamine addiction has increased from 21,000 in 1992 to 150,000 in 2004 which represents 8% of all treatment admissions.

Methamphetamine – The effects on those abusing and addicted to it, and the real need in Florida for effective drug rehab and addiction treatment

Recent federal and state laws now in place restricting the sale of products containing pseudoephedrine (the main ingredient in the making of methamphetamine) have dramatically reduced the number of meth lab seizures all across the country. This decline has NOT resulted in a decline in meth use. In fact, meth use continues to escalate. The reason for this is that Mexican, South Korean, and Chinese drug trafficking organizations have increased their distribution, with Mexican “Ice” becoming the primary form available in most states. “Ice” is a very pure, smokable form of methamphetamine that has higher addictive potential than other forms.

Florida need and demand for methamphetamine drug rehab treatment shown in studies

National figures for admissions to treatment with methamphetamine as the primary substance of abuse have been skyrocketing. In 1995, the figure was 47,695. Compare this to the 2005 number of 153,368 and it gives you an idea of just how much of an epidemic of methamphetamine use exists in this country. Florida figures for 2005 show that 758 individuals were admitted with methamphetamine as the primary drug of abuse.

Methamphetamine use and abuse in the last year in Florida breaks down as follows:meth addict in meth lab.jpg

Hope and help in Florida for methamphetamine abuse and addiction

"We have definitely seen an increase in people seeking help for meth addiction," reports Gary Smith, the Executive Director of Narconon Arrowhead. As one of the nation's largest and most successful drug rehabilitation and education programs, approximately 25 percent of their current clients are in treatment for methamphetamine.

"Since people come to our program from all across the country, the increase isn't isolated to one area or region," Smith adds. Narconon Arrowhead's proven track record of successfully rehabilitating meth addicts means that these meth addicts have hope for a drug-free life in the future. Most programs have a very difficult time effectively treating those addicted to meth. Smith credits their success to the drug-free rehabilitation methodology they use that was developed by American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard. There are very definite mechanics involved in becoming addicted to any substance and methamphetamine is no different in this regard.

Narconon Arrowhead is one of the largest and most successful drug rehabilitation and education programs in the country, successfully bringing to an end the dwindling spiral of addiction. This program also gives an individual the tools needed to rehabilitate lost hopes and dreams and puts them in a condition to use these tools to achieve goals that had been abandoned long before.

Most people seeking rehabilitation at Narconon Arrowhead have tried more traditional treatment methods, sometimes as many as five or even ten times. But they failed to achieve a drug-free life. Most have little hope that they can now beat their addiction. However, the Narconon® Drug Rehabilitation Program repeatedly achieves a success rate of approximately 70%. That means seven out of ten Narconon program graduates are still drug-free two years after completion of the program.

No one needs to tolerate or live with the intensely debilitating effects of methamphetamine addiction. You can put an end to it if you are abusing or addicted to methamphetamine. You can get real effective help for a loved one, if that is your situation. Effective drug rehab and addiction treatment is at hand!

Success Story - Adult Drug Rehab
When I came to Narconon Arrowhead, I had been fighting a battle with drugs and was getting my butt kicked. I was out of bullets and had no control over my life. I knew that I needed help, but did not honestly think anything could be done, because I was in too deep with an unethical lifestyle of crime and drug use. I was a terrible, dishonest son, an un-loyal, non-supportive father and husband. My mom never gave up on my ability to get help and turn my life around. She got me here to Narconon Arrowhead Drug Rehab Treatment Center. This program starts off great and keeps getting better. I have gained the ability to properly communicate with people. By completing the sauna program, I feel so much better and have regained a clear body and mind. I am aware of my life and I no longer dwell on past problems that kept me held up in life. I have regained the ability to be in full control of my life and make conscious, wise decisions. I know that I can have anything in life I want. I now know about all the areas that make up my life and what I must do to survive. I will soon be back on the battle ground in North Florida, but thanks to the Narconon Arrowhead staff and technology I learned, I have plenty of bullets to fight back with. I am confident in myself and know I am finally ready to return home to my family and remain drug-free forever. R.K.
