During 2003, there were 43,772 drug offenses which is up from 41,535 in 2000. Also, in 2003 there were 31,763 drug arrests in Michigan. Trafficking continues to contribute to the drug abuse problem in Michigan. Drugs are transported into Michigan though their airports, as well as smuggled in Michigan through the Canadian border. Land and water crossings are also a major port for drug trafficking in Michigan. Michigan\'s need for cocaine addiction treatment: Cocaine is the primary drug threat in Michigan and cocaine addiction treatment is in high demand throughout the state. Purity levels for the cocaine found in the state range from 60% to 90%. A newly emerging population of heavy crack users involves Native Americans living near casinos in northern Michigan. Of the total population in Michigan, 13.7% have used cocaine at least once in their lifetime. This statistics breaks down to 7.8% of 9th graders, 6.8% of 10th graders, 9.4% of 11th graders, and 10.2% of 12th graders who have used cocaine in their lifetime. Michigan\'s need for heroin drug rehab: South American (Colombia) remains the dominant source fo the heroin found in Michigan. However, in the past few years, heroin originating in Southeast Asia and the Middle East has been identified. Additionally, heroin originating in Mexico continues to be available in some parts of the state. heroin is widely available in the densely populated areas of Michigan. Of the total population of Michigan, 1.5% have used heroin at least once in their lifetime. Of the 1.5% of herion users, 4.5% of 9th graders, 1.6% of 10th graders, 3.6% of 11th graders, and 3.5% of 12th graders have used heroin at least once in their lifetime. As heroin abuse continues to rise in Michigan, heroin drug rehab programs are in demand. Michigan\'s need for methamphetamine addiction treatment: Increasing levels of methamphetamine abuse are evident in Michigan, especially in the southwestern corner of lower Michigan. There are 4.1% of the total Michigan population who have used methamphetamine at least once in their life. Teen methamphetamine abuse continues to remain stable as 8.4% of 9th graders, 5.3% of 10th graders, 8.9% of 11th graders, and 7.7% of 12th graders have used methamphetmaine in their lifetime. From January through November 24, 2003, the Michigan State Police seized 167 methamphetamine labs. During 2002, the State Police seized 189 labs, up from 91 labs in 2001, 40 labs in 2000, and 14 labs in 1999. Most of the labs seized have been in southwestern lower Michigan. As methamphetamine abuse statistics continue to increase, there is a great need for methamphetamine addiction treatment throughout Michigan. Michigan\'s need for marijuana drug rehab: Michigan marijuana abuse statistics remain stable but at high levels. Mexican marijuana continues to be the dominant form of the drug found in Michigan. While the marjority of marijuana seized in Michigan originiates in Mexico, law enforcement agencies report increases in seizures of hydroponically grown marijuana from Canada. Of the total population in Michigan, 45.5% aged 12 or older have used marijuana at least once in their lifetime. Teen marijuana abuse is a rising trend as 33.4% of 9th graders, 43% of 10th graders, 47.6% of 11th graders, and 55.4% of 12th graders have used marijuana at least once in their life. As teen marijuana abuse continues to increase, there is a huge demand for marijuana drug rehab programs throughout Michigan. During 2003, the DEA eradicated 24,000 marijuana plants and seized 6,535 kilograms of marijuana. Michigan\'s need for club drug addiction treatment: Club drug abuse has steadily incrased in Michigan, especially in urban areas of the state where the number of raves has also increased. A powder form of MDMA is now available in Michigan and numerous veterinary clinics have experienced break-ins by offenders reportedly seeking the drugs. Club drug addiction treatment is needed as 3.5% of the entire population in Michigan has used Ecstasy at least once in their lifetime. In 2004, Federal agencies seized a total of 4,873 MDMA pills througout the state of Michigan. Michigan\'s need for prescription drug rehab: Law enforcement reports involving oxycodone have been increasing primarily in the west and north sections of lower Michigan. OxyContin demand is increasing throughout the state. The Michigan Automated Prescription System (MAPS) program indicates that the state\'s oxyContin prescriptions have increased by 31%. There is a total of 2.1% of Michigan\'s population who has abused OxyContin at least once in their lifetime and there is a need for prescription drug rehab centers in Michigan. In the first three months of 2002, the Michigan State Police seized more than 500 oxycodone pills and prescription drug abuse will continue to rise.
