Oregon\s need for drug rehab:  The Drug Enforcement Administration reported 180 drug arrests in Oregaon during 2003.  During 2002, there were 17,606 adult arrests for drug offenses and 2,433 juvenile drug arrests throughout the state.  The National Household Survey on Drug Abuse indicates that 1.61% of Oregon citizens reported past year dependence on illicit drugs and as this trend continues to increase, there is a need for drug rehab programs in Oregon.  MDMA is also available throught Oregon in larger cities, college campuses, and outlying areas.  Prescription drug abuse continues to increase in Oregon as hydrocodone and benzodiazepines are the prescription drugs of choice for abuse.

Oregon\'s need for heroin addiction treatment:  Besides methamphetamine, heroin continues to be preferred by most drug abusers in Oregon.  mexican black tar and brown powder heroin are the primary types distributed in the state.  Mexican black tar and brown heorin distribution is controlled by Hispanic trafficking organizations.  heroin continues to be shipped from Mexico by a variety of methods, primarily by vehicles with hidden compartments.  Lifetime heroin drug use between 2002-2003, reports shows that 2.3% of 8th graders and 1.9% of 11th graders have used heroin at least once.  As heroin trafficking continues to rise in Oregon, there is a need for heroin addiction treatment.

Oregon\'s need for methamphetamine drug rehab:  Methamphetamine is one of the most widely abused drugs in Oregon.  Mexican methamphetamine and locally produced methamphetamine are both available throughout the state.  Multi-pound quantities of meth are available throughout western areas in Oregon, while smaller quantities are available in eastern Oregon.  Six percent of the Oregon 11th graders surveyed in the 2002-2003 school year reported using methamphetamine at some point in their lifetime.  Also, four percent of Oregon 8th graders have used methamphetamine once in their lifetime.  During 1999-2003, law officials have seized a total of 2,104 methamphetamine labs throughout the state and there is a great demand for methamphetamine drug rehab programs in Oregon.

Oregon\'s need for marijuana addiction treatment:  Marijuana is readily available in Oregon.  Even though 33.43% of Oregon citizens ages 12 and older feel that smoking marijuana once a month poses a great risk, 23.4% of Oregon 11th graders reported using marijuana the month before they were surveyed.  Also, 12.7% of 8th graders have used marijuana the month prior to the survey and 7.8% of teen marijuana abusers reported having marijuana on school property.  During 2002, there were 45,458 eradicated marijuana plants and 53.4 kilograms of marijuana seized in 2003.  These statistics clearly indicate marijuana addiction treatment is highly needed in Oregon.
